Global warming, eh? What's the deal with THAT?
And the greenhouse effect?! That's natural though.
-silence-
Is this thing on?!

uh, i dunno what they were going to talk about per se, but i know it got slightly delayed because LONDON GO BOOM Chelsey said the exact same thing to me: "London go boom." But anyway, what does this have to do with global warming? GLOBAL WARMING = PROBLEM.

ok, for all you smart kids. please make sense of this...i heard last night on the news that warm water is like jet fuel for hurricanes. if you haven't noticed, they have been talking about how we are in hurricane season and how they are popping up sooner than usual. now you learned about water right?? why does water have such a high specific heat?? the amount of heat it takes to raise 1 gram of water 1 degree celcius. and if you know the answer to that (which i am assuming you do) , how can they back up this whole hurricane talk by saying it has nothing to do with global warming??? i don't get it. perhaps you can enlighten me

Water has a high specific heat because of... ... ... no way, we learned this? Erm, water is held together by polar covalent bonds, which causes the O side of the molecule to be more electronegative than the H side, therefore making the O side slightly postive and the H side slightly negative. Because of this, water molecules are able to hydrogen bond to each other. Because of these hydrogen bonds, water has a high specific heat. I <3 making things up. ;D Actually, nothing I've ever learned about water seems to make more sense. Unless density, surface tension, or cohesion plays a role, and I'm not going to go there, because I still don't know what I'm talking about. The people on the news must be lying. Global warming = warmer water. Warmer water = more hurricanes. It has everything to do with global warming then, right? The news people just don't want to send the common people into a state of panic, causing much chaos and confusion, and there will be no order ever again. But really, the state of disorder is more stable, so what's the problem with telling the truth about the hurricanes' relationship to global warming? I really have no idea what I'm saying.

lol, lol, lol...ERIN!!!! I AM IN CAP MODE NOW B/C I AM YELLING YOUR NAME. UH EXCUSE ME... YES YOU DID LEARN ABOUT SPECIFIC HEAT ALONG WITH LETS SEE..... HEAT OF VAPORIZATION (THE AMOUNT OF HEAT IT TAKES TO TURN ONE GRAM OF WATER FROM A LIQUID TO A GAS). I'LL GIVE YOU AN EXAMPLE OF H20'S HIGH SPECIFIC HEAT. I TALKED ABOUT IRON AND HOW IT'S SPECIFIC HEAT IS .1CAL BUT WATER'S IS 1 CAL AND EXPLAINED WHY YOU CAN PUT WATER INTO AN IRON POT AND HEAT IT ON THE STOVE AND YOU WILL BURN YOUR HAND ON THE POT BUT YOU CAN PUT YOUR HAND IN THE WATER AND IT IS STILL JUST WARM... DO YOU REMEMBER NOW??? I GUESS I DID TOOOOO MANY WATER DEMOS. ALRIGHT!!! HIGH SPECIFIC HEAT, HEAT OF VAPORIZATION, HEAT OF FUSION, ALL IN THE FIRST READING WHICH WAS THE FIRST READING QUIZ... EVAPORATIVE COOLING (TALKED ABOUT PLANTS AND PEOPLE - THERE IS A PICTURE IN CHAPTER 2, THE CHEMICAL BASIS OF LIFE, OF PATRICK EWING SWEATING)... LETS NOT FORGET WHY COASTAL REGIONS ARE WARMER ( FUNNY TOPIC TO ME BECAUSE WE TALKED ABOUT IT IN CHAPTER 2 AND CHAPTER 34 - I BELIEVE WE WENT FULL CIRCLE). THE ALL IMPORTANCE OF ICE AND HOW IT ACTS AS A BLANKET TO THE SMALLER BODIES OF WATER THAT WOULD OTHERWISE FREEZE FROM THE BOTTOM UP AND KILL EVERYTHING. SO - I AM GUESSING THAT YOU ARE GETTING AN UNCOMFORTABLE FLASHBACK OF SEPTEMBER AND CARDY'S HONOR'S BIO CLASS - LESSON ON WATER , WHICH I THINK TOOK TWO DAYS TO COMPLETE. ANYWAY, YES, I AM RAMBLING - SO BACK TO YOUR RESPONSE TO ME. GOOD WORD - ELECTRONEGATIVE, REMEMBER THAT FOR CHEMISTRY. BUT ... YOU GOT THE POSITIVE / NEGATIVE WRONG..............ERIN!!!...OXYGEN...ELECTRONEGATIVE....MORE NEGATIVE... NOT POSITIVE - SILLY. YOU KNEW THAT - I AM JUST REMINDING YOU. ACTUALLY YOUR DESCRIPTION OF WHY WATER HAS A HIGH SPECIFIC HEAT IS CORRECT (IN ITALICIZED WRITING). WE KNOW WHY THE HYDROGEN BONDS FORM, AND B/C THEY FORM THEY HAVE TO BREAK BEFORE THE H20 MOLECULES CAN MOVE FAST ENOUGH TO CHANGE THE TEMP. SO THE SPECIFIC HEAT OF WATER IS HIGHER DUE TO THE NEED FOR MOLECULAR MOTION AND... THE RESISTANCE OF THAT DUE TO THE HYDROGEN BONDING... BIO IF LIFE RIGHT??? WELL, WE SHOULD APPRECIATE WATER A LITTLE MORE B/C "LIVING THINGS AREN'T GOOD WITH MAJOR FLUCTUATION" AND THE PROPERTIES OF WATER ALLOW FOR ADJUSTMENT -ALL DUE TO THE ELECTRONEGATIVITY OF ATOMIC NUMBER 8. YOUR OTHER REFERENCES , SURFACE TENSION AND COHESION FALL UNDER THE SAME CATEGORY - H-BONDS, POLARITY, ELECTRONEGATIVITY, 8 PROTONS VERSUS 1 PROTON.
I TOTALLY AGREE WITH YOU ON THE GLOBAL WARMING ISSUE AND THE NEWS PEOPLE. WHAT YOU SAID ABOUT THE PANIC, AND DISORDER HAD ME LAUGHING VERY LOUDLY - I THINK YOU CAN GET THE VISUAL SINCE I DID IT AT THE END OF THE YEAR WITH YOUR LETTER AND YOUR JOURNAL READING. LETS EXAMINE FOR A MOMENT AND MAKE SOMETHING THAT MAKES NO SENSE TO PROBABLY 99.8% OF THE POPULATION - MAKE SENSE!!! DISORDER IN THE HUMAN MIND IS COMFORTING... THINK ABOUT IT...WE GET THIS CRAZY NEWS, WE FREAK OUT AND BECOME DISORDERED TO FEEL BETTER. I CAN ONLY SPEAK FOR MYSELF, BUT IF I LIVED IN FLORIDA ,...AS SOON AS I HEARD ANOTHER HURRICANE WAS COMING I'D SCURRY OVER TO HOME DEPOT AND BUY ALL THESE BOARDS AND NAILS AND TRY TO SAVE MY HOUSE... THEN I'D RUN TO WAWA AN PURCHASE ENOUGH BEN AND JERRY'S ICE CREAM TO COMFORT ME THROUGH THE STORM. I DON'T THINK I AM UNDER CONTROL AT ALL - SO... DISORDER IS MORE STABLE!! LOL. I DO HAVE TO TELL YOU THAT I AM UPSET THAT I CANNOT GIVE ANY FACES ON THIS FORUM, WHAT AM I DOING WRONG??? ANY RESPONSE? TO ANY OF THIS??

I do know that oxygen is more negative. I just... wrote the wrong thing. Whoops. Wow. Yes... I remember learning about all that water stuff now.... In fact, I still have that reading on water. I think. *checks* I do. And the quiz. I got the one about heat of vaporization and heat of fusion wrong, which is kind of bad, because I learned about that in 8th grade too. *ashamed* Thank you for the re-enlightenment on practically everything one can learn about water. I <3 your capitalization. I don't know why you can't get faces. They seem to work for me. I always place a space between my smilies and words, so try doing that if you don't already, because the text might interfere, or something. Eh.
